I just…don’t like Adam that much.

In Jumping the Shark I was utterly horrified that they would dare bring in another Winchester, especially as a brother. But I supposed that if the boys could accept him, so could I. And then that wasn’t even the real Adam. The real Adam, as it turns out, is kind of a dick—though in his defense he was misled by the angels and he was cool in the end of Point of No Return.

I just have this thing where I feel like you gotta EARN the name of Winchester. Mary did. John did. Sam and Dean definitely did. Bobby and Cas did too. I feel like the name of Winchester is more than an name. It’s a title. It’s an honor because the entire original Winchester family is so brave, selfless, strong, and caring that the implication of the name means you have those qualities as well. Not that Adam HAS to earn the name, but I’m not sure I’ll REALLY consider him a Winchester if he doesn’t. And no, I don’t really consider him accepting Michael as earning it because he didn’t want to and it wasn’t that great of a choice.

ANYWAY. The reason I say this is because I’ve seen a gif around of Adam with the tags #fuck it i’m going to save adam from hell by myself and #i think the whole fandom should go down on a rescue mission. And I feel kinda bad because I WANT to love Adam as much as the rest of you. There’s no reason why I shouldn’t love him. I just don’t. Like, hey, I’d totally go with y’all on that rescue mission because you’re gonna need every man you can get. But I just want to love him as much as everyone else because nobody deserves to be in the cage and he’s had a hard life as it is.

SO GO CRAP IN MY ASK BOX AND CONVINCE ME WHY I SHOULD LOVE ADAM KTHX. (respectfully, of course.)

(Sorry for reblogging, but this is WAY too big for your ask box. Sorries!)

Hi stranger!!! So, saw your post in the Adam tag, and I understand where you’re coming from. I’m also seeing some responses basically spelling out his life story instead of explaining WHY he is so lovable. I think whether or not you love a character is almost completely dependent on who you are as a person. For example, I don’t just love Adam like I love Dean or Cas; I actually RELATE to that boy. Raised by a single mother, sometimes trusts the wrong people, wants a life lacking drama and/or much change.

I just see a lot of myself in him, and it kind of hurts that he can be tossed aside (or into the Cage) so easily. After all, he seemed to be trying to make the most out of his life, and he’s destined for Heaven, but in the end, he ended up Hell-bound. I think the reason why some people are so ready to come to his rescue (see those tags you posted above) is because it kinda feels like the SPN universe is tossing anyone who is like Adam into the Cage, too. Like it’s saying, you can try to do everything right, but in the end, you’re not gonna amount to much more than a fishing bait and a drama-filled plot twist for the Winchesters.

I also think that he may be the right character in the wrong show. SPN is all about these tragic characters and their hunter lifestyles, but Adam is neither very tragic (at least, not until the ghouls show up) nor a hunter. He was just a normal, sarcastic guy who was going through college. If his haters met him on the street, in another atmosphere, on another show, I think they’d think differently. (I think they might not judge him as a jerk based on his first impression if they bothered to look a little deeper.)

(Adam is not a character who is trying to earn the Winchester title, btw. Some fans just love him so much that they want to link him to the Winchester brothers in some way, and what better way than through family lineage? But no, canon Adam said it himself: they may be related, but they are not family. Adam HIMSELF knows the worth of family more than some of his own fans. I think the only thing about him that may be Winchester-like is his smart-ass attitude. Everything else about him came from Kate; he is a Milligan, and there is absolutely no shame in that.)

The clincher was the look on his face when the door shut, right when Michael showed up. That lost look. His fear, his loss, all the other emotions you feel when everything goes to shit no matter how hard you try to stabilize chaos.

And then he turned around. The awe on his face is the last you ever see of him. And it’s just… gorgeous. It’s his last moment of feeling anything other than pain.

That’s when I fell in love with him.

I SO SORREE FOR GIVING YOU FEELS. JUST BLAME MY EMOTIONS PLS. ;-;

oh, gosh

you are so sweet! IT’S OKAY, I ENJOY THE FEELS <3

#supernatural #adam milligan #but #aahhhh i’m such a horrible person #i kind of want adam to become the next big bad #because he’s been trapped in hell for so much longer than the winchesters ever were #and the fact that he was even dragged into the war was a direct result of dean’s refusal to play meatsuit to michael #ADAM IS LIKE #THE ULTIMATE INNOCENT BYSTANDER #AND I’D LIKE TO SEE THAT COME FULL CIRCLE #EVEN HIM STAYING IN THE PIT WAS A DIRECT RESULT OF DEAN’S CHOICES #EVEN THOUGH THAT CHOICE WAS ENTIRELY UNDERSTANDABLE #and #like #people always talk about wanting dean to have his own story arc #and i think it’d be interesting to see him come to terms with his mistakes through adam #who would be a sort of extremely sympathetic semi-villain #AND OH GOD THERE ARE SO MANY TAGS I’M SO SORRY #i’m a bad person #please don’t hate meee ;___;

WHAT NO DON’T BE SORRY THESE ARE AMAZING IDEAS.

I actually have a headcanon I wanna let you know about because it helps me feel way better about the Adam-being-in-the-Cage-for-too-damn-long situation:

When Cas brought an unconscious Adam to the Winchesters + Bobby, he branded his ribs. That means that all three of John’s sons have these sigils on their ribs that hide them from ALL angels. Skip ahead to when Cas takes Sam’s body out of the Cage (leaving behind the soul); this means that Sam no longer has a hiding place. I like to think that Adam kept Sam’s soul with him, that they both shared that boy’s ribcage, hid inside from the terrors around them. And then Death came and took what Adam protected for so many years, but Adam let Sam go willingly, because at least one of them could get out. It’s kind of the opposite of what Dean’s always accused of: keeping Sam by his side, even if it means dragging him Hellward. This is an example of letting Sam go.

And then there would exist the complications: Sam not remembering Adam because of the Wall, Cas shifting the aftereffects to himself, etc. But I dunno, it kind of explains why Sam didn’t go completely batshit after Cas knocked down the Wall. Because he maybe had a safe place with his little half-brother.

So yeah, just omg. Your ideas, they fit my headcanon and just. Sexy ideas are sexy. I want to lick them. :B

By chance, do you write?

AHHHHHH THAT WAS LOVELY. You really have a grasp on his character. I might go watch Point of No Return again with this lens and see how I feel about him then. I guess I was thinking that I’d get spewings of ALSJLIDFSFK ADAM LOVE because tumblr is like that; I didn’t love Gabriel, Balthazar, or Cas as much as I do now until I got on here. Well, if nothing else, you’ve certainly instilled a respect for Adam that I otherwise wouldn’t have gotten. Thanks so much!!! <3

OMG C’MERE YOU.

Aha, you’re very welcome! I dunno, while the main SPN characters are lovely and complex, I often feel like I relate more to the minor ones. Adam, Jo, Andy, the Roadhouse Crew, Papa Winchester, etc. Even Kevin Tran, lol. I’m not sure why.

And it is super great that you’re open to loving a character. Seriously. Some people either unconditionally love or ultimately hate / are indifferent, and it’s really refreshing to see someone on the edge, without stubbornness. And like I said before, loving a character depends entirely on you. :) If you love a character, that’s great! And if you don’t, that’s perfectly fine, too; you’re not at fault, you’re just being yourself. And yourself = awesome covered in awesomesauce.

(Also, while watching Point of No Return, keep in mind that Adam’s primary goal is seeing his mother again. He may be kind of a jerk face, but his love is very real. Also, ya can’t really fault him for trusting in angels more than these dudes he just met.)

My first digital painting: Adam (Jake Abel) from Supernatural.
The most tragic SPN character, IMHO. And my favorite.
That face ^ probs one of the most haunting moments of SPN, ever. This asshole needs to come back in Season 8, srs, or I will cut a bitch. >:(
